This measure overturns federal approval for California's strict limits on smog-forming nitrogen oxide pollution from heavy-duty trucks and engines. As a result, California and states that follow its clean air policies cannot enforce these stricter tailpipe standards or related engine warranty requirements. Commercial vehicle manufacturers and trucking fleets will instead only have to comply with standard nationwide federal emissions rules.
