Alaska Native Village Municipal Lands Restoration Act of 2025
Alaska Native Village Corporations can reclaim land that was previously set aside and held in trust by the State of Alaska for future city governments that were never established. If both the village corporation and local residents pass formal resolutions requesting the trust be dissolved, ownership of the land returns to the corporation. In return, the village corporation must take over and honor any existing leases or use agreements on the property, and corporations will no longer be required to set aside additional land for potential future towns.
